Cell Phone Controlled Robotic Vehicle
The project is designed to develop a robotic vehicle that is controlled by a cell phone. DTMF commands from a phone are sent to another cell phone which is mounted on the robot. These commands are fed to a microcontroller of 8051 family to operate the vehicle movement through motor interface.
The main scope of project is to send commands from one cell phone to be received by another cell phone mounted on the robot to receive the DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) mode commands which are then decoded by a DTMF decoder.
The corresponding codes are then fed to a microcontroller, programmed to recognize those codes to operate 2nos DC motors through motor driver IC for any direction movement as per the sent commands from sender’s mobile. The motors are controlled using motor driver IC which is interfaced to the microcontroller. It uses microcontroller from 8051 family and a battery for power source.
Further the project can be enhanced by interfacing it with additional motors for multipurpose activity. For example, it can be developed into pick n place robot or fire fighting robot with water pump etc.
1) This line following robot can also be modified to a walking robot in any surface by using only one motor with homemade fixtures as per the detailed instructions give.
2) Similarly the same walking robot can be attached with special magnetic material as per instructions to climb a wall of any vertical metallic surface say a refrigerator body.

Q: Why my phone is not working for the project while it works with other phones?
A: The dialing tones generated by a phone forms as an input to the project for proper working. While some phones develop exact DTMF tones even before establishing a call while pressing the numbers, some other phones develop a flat tone for any number pressed. Besides the same, some phones the internal speakeroutput is not disabled owing to some specific setting enacted by the user. In these cases directly dialing through chord connection shall not work. However if a call is initiated to the dialed number mobile which is interfaced to the project it will work (provided the connector is not loose) as DTMF tones are compulsorily made available to the receiver from the exchange ,as all our IVRS works on those kind of tones. Therefore,if the project does not work by direct wire connection please try by dialing the number from any other phone. In order to be doubly confirmed make sure that while one inserts the pin to the cell phone the speaker gets disconnected failing which it is not going to work because the tones are sent to the project board only if the speaker of the cell phone is disabled.
